Weekend 7-9 Jun Mark II

9 June 2008

Started undercoating the MDF until I ran out of spray. Also in this picture you can see some over spray on the upstairs panelling.

This is an overview of where I am at, for the moment, although the photo is a day behind.

You can see the 1st of the test paint colour for this room and light blue, it does have a certain name but its cold in the garage and I couldn’t be bothered going to read the label.

Weekend 7-9 Jun

9 June 2008

Well, I finally started cutting in some windows in the side walls, followed by wooden sashes and frames.

Also started laying down some undercoat on several pieces. I have papered and taped off the two upper levels and will start finishing one room at time, then I won’t have to worry too much about over spraying other rooms.

One of the ceilings i did last week. For the fancy room ;-)

31 May – 01 Jun Weekend – Take 2

3 June 2008

Finally some painting, the picture below shows the 1st coat of spray paint to one of the ceilings. Colour is called Ivory something.

The dados finally been re-sanded to remove saw marks, but haven’t been re stained yet, that’s a job for next weekend along with more ceiling work. Or the weekend after that one.

31 May – 01 Jun Weekend

3 June 2008

Here’s my first window, 1st attempt wasn’t straight enough so it got a little bigger than planned.

Here’s my attempt at making some arches for the doorways, was an interesting time making these on the bandsaw. The two unstained ones are pine and the stained one is ply, which looks ok in person.

24-25 May Take 2

25 May 2008

Here’s the railings for the 2nd floor stairs, actually got around to staining one of them.

The original bricks were too big for the scale of the house, so I cut them into quarters and painted them two colours , indian red and terracotta.

24-25 May Weekend

25 May 2008

This the top room of the house, going for a luxury feel for it ;-) The wallpaper is off the colour printer and hanging from the clamps, gives you an idea of how the room should look.

Finally laid down some stain on the floor and the dados.

17-18 May weekends work

18 May 2008

Finally finished laying the wooden floor, all up it took approx 180 ice cream sticks.

Found this idea on a UK dollhouse website, called dado (which is also a woodworking term, go figure).

Also finished two walls of the panelling (cypress fence palings). These have been filled and sanded and are almost ready for staining, but what colour?

Also sprayed a grey primer onto the two outside walls, which when its ready will act as the mortar for my brick work, and speaking of bricks

Here’s the result of 40 minutes labour, 2 – 3 mm slices of wood, which have to be cut in half and this bowl will produce approx 400 bricks. After cutting they will be painted 1 of 2 colours. I cut them difference depths to add some realism to the walls, same for the two colours.

Need another 350 brick according to calculations.

11 May

11 May 2008

Here’s a photo of the cypress fence paling that’s been sawn into strips and glued to the chipboard wall:
Just have to figure out a way for trim the panelling where it overhands the doorway. (Solved with a chisel, a half round file and some sandpaper.)

Wooden floor and 1st stairs

11 May 2008

Finally started to glue into position the 1st floor stairs, forgot to take a picture of the lower part of the stairs, but I’ll save that for next time.

The wooden floor is starting to creep across the floor, time consuming work laying down ice cream sticks. Thats 100 of the sticks

Picture frame

11 May 2008

Here’s some practice painting frames for the house, what I’m planning to do is have a recess in the back so that the picture/painting can be changed. Also going to do this to the windows, change of scenery anyone?
